Greenville County & Laurens County

Working in Fountain Inn

Fountain Inn sits on a county line. Most of the city is in Greenville County, and the southern part runs into Laurens County. SC 14 is Main Street. I-385 runs along the southern edge, with exits 22, 23 and 26 serving the town. Ground around here is easy to reach with a trailer and a track machine, which keeps the setup simple.

The town has grown quickly. The census counted 7,799 people in 2010 and 10,416 in 2020. Growth like that turns field edges and wood lots into house lots. It also brings older parcels back into play, ground that sat for years and grew up in saplings, vines and briars.

Land management in Fountain Inn usually means one of three jobs. Forestry mulching opens up ground that has gotten away from its owner. Land clearing takes a lot down to soil so a house can go on it. Site work then turns that open ground into a pad, a drive and a yard that drains. We do all three, and the same crew can carry a job from the first tree to the last load of stone.

We are based in Asheville and work the Upstate regularly. McKinley walks the ground with you, prices the work and runs the job. Call (828) 540-6856 or send the form with your address.

Forestry mulching in Fountain Inn

A lot of Fountain Inn calls start with ground that got away from someone. A back field gone to saplings. A fence line you can no longer walk. A wooded parcel bought years ago and never touched. A mulching head grinds that growth into chip where it stands. The chip stays on the ground as a mat over the soil.

That mat matters on Piedmont clay. Bare clay on a slope sheds rain and takes soil with it. Covered ground holds. Mulching also lets you keep the mature hardwoods and open up only the understory, so you get the shade and lose the thicket. Our forestry mulching page explains the machine and the method. Land clearing for a house lot

When a house is going on the ground, mulching is only half the answer. The stumps and the root mat have to come out under the house, the drive and anywhere fill will be placed. We mark the clearing limits first, along with the trees you want to keep. Then the trees come down, the stumps come out and the debris is hauled or processed. More on the method on our land clearing page.

Fountain Inn has three possible offices for a lot. Inside the city limits it is the City of Fountain Inn. Outside them it is Greenville County or Laurens County, depending on which side of the line the lot falls. Ask that office about land disturbance and tree rules before work starts. Rules change, so confirm with them for your lot.

Pads, drives and drainage after the clearing

Once the ground is open, the rest of the job is shaping it. The pad is cut and filled to the height on your plans. Fill goes down in layers and each layer is compacted. The drive goes in early, built on a stone base, so a loaded concrete truck can reach the pad. The yard is graded so rain leaves the house and the lot without running onto the neighbor.

If the drive will meet a state road such as SC 14 or SC 418, the entrance goes through SCDOT. Settle that before the stone is ordered. Our site preparation checklist for South Carolina lists what to line up before a build.

Getting a Fountain Inn estimate

Send the address and a few photos with the form, or call (828) 540-6856. Tell us what the ground is for: a house, a pasture, a cleared fence line or simply usable land again. Mention which county the lot is in if you know it. We then come out, walk the ground with you and give you a real number at no charge.

Fountain Inn is part of the same Upstate run as Simpsonville, just up SC 14, and Greenville about 17 miles north-west. Jobs in Gray Court, Owings and toward Woodruff are on the same trip.

Do you offer land management services in Fountain Inn, SC?

Yes. We do forestry mulching, land clearing, site preparation, house pads, grading, gravel driveways and drainage in Fountain Inn and the ground around it. One crew can handle the whole sequence on a lot.

Can you clear the underbrush and keep the big trees on my Fountain Inn lot?

Yes. That is a mulching job. We mark the trees that stay, then grind the saplings, vines and brush beneath them into chip. The canopy stays and the ground is left covered.

My land is on the Laurens County side of Fountain Inn. Is that in your area?

Yes. We work both sides of the county line, along SC 14 toward Gray Court and out SC 418. Permit questions on that side go to Laurens County or the City of Fountain Inn, so check with the right office first.

Who do I ask about clearing rules for a lot in Fountain Inn?

Inside city limits, the City of Fountain Inn. Outside them, Greenville County or Laurens County, depending on where the lot sits. A new driveway entrance on a state road goes through SCDOT. Confirm with each office before work starts.

What should I have ready before a Fountain Inn estimate?

The address, a rough idea of the area you want worked, and what the ground is for. A plat or a site plan helps on a building lot. Photos help us plan the visit. Mark any private lines you know about, such as wells or irrigation.
