Driveway Repair around Weaverville
Weaverville sits about nine miles north of downtown Asheville, a short run from our base. A lot of homes here sit well back from the road, at the end of a long gravel drive with plenty of fall between the house and the pavement.
Long drives fail slowly. The crown flattens a little each year. The ditch fills with leaves and silt. One spring the water stops turning off where it should and runs down the tire tracks instead. By then the ruts are deep and the low end is soft.
That kind of damage needs more than a load of stone on top. We restore the shape, open the ditches, clear or reset the pipes, and add stone only where the base has gone. Call McKinley at (828) 540-6856.

What the job covers
- Ruts and tire tracks graded out
- Washboard cut down and recompacted
- Crown rebuilt along the full length
- Ditches re-opened on the uphill side
- Pipes under the drive cleared or reset
- Water turned off with dips and turnouts
- Soft sections rebuilt from the base
Driveway Repair in Weaverville: what to know
Drives that climb off Reems Creek and the Dry Ridge
Reems Creek flows right through Weaverville, and the town sits along the Dry Ridge. Many drives climb from creek level up toward ridge ground, or drop from a ridge road down to a house below. Either way, rain on the slope above runs toward the drive.
On a climb, that water cuts gullies down the middle. On a drop, it piles silt and stone at the bottom by the house. The repair turns the water off in stages, with a crown and a working ditch, so it never gets the length to do damage.
Washboard and ruts on the flatter stretches
Not every Weaverville drive is steep. On the flatter runs the common trouble is washboard: a ripple across the surface that rattles every car. It usually means the surface stone has lost its fines and no longer binds.
Blading it smooth lasts a few weeks. Cutting deeper, mixing the material back together and compacting it with a crown lasts far longer. Ruts on flat ground often mean soft base underneath, and those sections get rebuilt before the surface goes back on.
Pipes, entrances and who to ask
I-26 runs along the town's western edge, and US 25 and US 70 head west from exit 19. Many drives start from smaller state-maintained roads. If the repair touches the pipe or apron where your drive meets one, ask the local NCDOT District Engineer's office first.
Buncombe County runs the erosion control program everywhere in the county outside Asheville city limits, which includes Weaverville. Ask the county, and the town for its own rules, before larger repairs disturb soil. See culvert installation for how we reset a failed pipe.
When a repair is enough
If the base is mostly intact, regrading, re-crowning and a ditch fix are the smaller spend. If the drive was never built with a base, the ruts will return whatever goes on top. Our washed-out driveway guide explains the difference, and the Weaverville service area page covers new drives here.

My long Weaverville driveway ruts every spring. What is the fix?
Usually the crown has flattened and the ditch has filled in, so water runs in the tire tracks. Restoring the crown, re-opening the ditch and turning the water off at intervals fixes the cause. Then the surface is regraded and compacted.
Can you get rid of washboard on a gravel drive in Weaverville?
Yes. We cut below the ripples, mix the surface stone back with its fines, restore the crown and compact it. Where the fines are gone, new binding stone goes on before compaction.
Is Weaverville covered by Buncombe County's erosion control program?
Yes. NCDEQ lists Buncombe County's program as covering every part of the county except the City of Asheville. Ask the county before a larger repair disturbs soil, and ask the town about its own rules.
How soon can you look at a driveway in Weaverville?
Weaverville is one of the shortest trips we make from our base, so a site visit is usually easy to fit in. Call (828) 540-6856 to set a time.
Do you fix the bottom of a drive where gravel washes into the yard?
Yes. Stone at the bottom means water is carrying it down. We turn that water off higher up with dips or turnouts, line the outlets, and pull the stone back up into the drive.
