Driveway Repair around Waynesville
Haywood County property runs to acreage, and the drives are long. One drive may serve a house, a barn and a cabin up the hill. That much gravel takes a lot of rain off the slope, and every stretch has to shed it.
When a long drive starts to fail, it rarely fails all at once. A pipe silts up near the top. Water crosses the surface below it. A rut starts, then a gully, then the low end goes soft. Fix only the gully and the cause is still upstream.
We walk the whole length, find each place water gets on, and repair from the top down. Call McKinley at (828) 540-6856 or send photos and the address through the form.

Driveway Repair in Waynesville: what to know
After the Richland Creek and Pigeon River floods
Helene brought the worst flooding ever recorded from Richland Creek to Waynesville's Frog Level and Hazelwood sections. Across Haywood County, the Pigeon River crested higher than it did in the 2004 and 2021 floods.
Drives up the side slopes took their own damage. Pipes overtopped, ditches filled, and water ran down surfaces that had been fine for years. If yours has washed again since, the drainage likely never got rebuilt. That is the part we start with.
Long climbs and switchback corners
On a long climb, water picks up speed the farther it runs. A drive needs it turned off at intervals, with broad dips or turnouts, so it never runs far enough to cut. Years of regrading often flatten them out.
Switchback corners take extra wear. Water from the upper leg piles into the turn, and tires scuff the stone out on the tight side. We rebuild the corner on a firm base, shape it to drain outward and line the outlet. Our driveway repair and grading page covers the method.
Slope rules and who to ask
Haywood County has an Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance and a Slope Ordinance. NCDEQ lists the county's erosion program as covering unincorporated areas plus Clyde and Maggie Valley. Inside Waynesville town limits, ask the town's planning office which rules apply.
US 276 runs through the middle of town. Where a repair reaches an entrance on a state-maintained road like it, ask the local NCDOT District Engineer's office first. A simple regrade of the drive itself is a different matter from moving soil on a slope, so ask before the bigger jobs.
Keeping a long drive in shape
A repaired drive still needs the ditches and pipe inlets kept clear, especially after leaf fall. Our gravel driveway maintenance guide covers the yearly checks. If the route itself is wrong for the slope, a new build may beat another repair. See gravel driveway installation in Waynesville.

Waynesville driveway repair questions
Not seeing yours? Call or text (828) 540-6856 and ask McKinley, or read the guides.
Can you repair a Waynesville driveway that washed out in Helene?
Yes. We reset the pipes, re-cut the ditches, rebuild the washed sections on a compacted base and restore the crown. Then the water is turned off the drive at intervals so it cannot build speed.
Why does the switchback on my Haywood County drive keep washing?
Water from the upper leg runs into the turn, and tires scuff the stone outward. Rebuilding the corner on a firm base, shaping it to drain and lining the outlet stops it.
Can one repair job cover a main drive and its branches?
Yes. We price the main drive and each branch to a barn, cabin or second house together, with heavier work where the trucks run.
Does the Haywood County Slope Ordinance apply to driveway repairs?
It may, depending on how much soil the repair moves and where the drive is. Ask Haywood County, or the Town of Waynesville inside town limits, before a larger repair starts.
What should I send for a Waynesville repair estimate?
The address, the rough length, and photos of the worst gully, any pipe ends you can find and the steepest corner. Call (828) 540-6856 or use the form.
