Forestry Mulching around Greer
Forestry mulching is one machine with a grinding head. It walks into overgrown ground and turns brush, vines and small trees into chip on the spot. Nothing is piled, nothing is hauled, and the ground is left under a layer of mulch.
In Greer that suits a lot of ground. Back lots on older streets that have grown in. Acreage north of town that used to be pasture. Fence lines and property lines nobody can walk anymore. Wooded parcels where the owner wants to see through the trees again without losing them.
It does not take the stumps or root mat out, and that is the point. The roots keep holding the soil. If the ground is going to be built on, it needs land clearing in Greer instead, at least where the house and drive go.
We come down from Asheville to the Upstate regularly, and McKinley walks every job before pricing it. Call (828) 540-6856 or use the form.

Forestry Mulching in Greer: what to know
What mulching suits in Greer
Mulching is the right tool when you want the land back, not bare. Clear a fence line so it can be repaired. Open a back lot so it can be mowed. Cut a trail to the creek. Thin the brush under oaks and pines so the yard has room and light.
Before the machine starts, we mark what stays: mature trees, property corners and anything you want left. Our main forestry mulching page explains the machine and what it can take.
Near the lakes and the South Tyger
Northern Greer drains to the South Tyger River and to Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham, which supply the city's water. Ground near that water is where mulching makes the most sense. The chip layer and the roots left in place hold the soil, so a hard rain carries less of it downhill.
Greer CPW runs both lakes. If your land touches the shoreline, ask them about any rules before work near the water.
What it leaves behind
After mulching you have open ground under a layer of chip, with low stumps left in place. The chip breaks down over time. In the Upstate's long growing season, some growth will come back from the roots, so ground you want kept open will need a later visit or regular mowing.
If you might build later, mulching now still helps. It opens the ground so you can see it, and the building area can be cleared properly when the time comes. Not sure which you need? Read forestry mulching vs land clearing in SC, or see the Greer service area page for everything else we do here.

Can I build on ground that was forestry mulched?
Yes, once the building area is properly cleared. Mulching leaves stumps and roots in place, so the house, drive and fill areas need clearing first. The rest of the lot can stay mulched.
Will mulching harm the creek at the back of my Greer property?
Mulching is one of the gentler ways to open ground near water, because the roots and the chip stay to hold the soil. Ask Greer CPW about any rules if the land touches Lake Robinson or Lake Cunningham.
How big a tree can a forestry mulcher handle?
Brush, vines, saplings and small trees are what it is built for. Larger trees are cut down and handled separately, or left standing if you want to keep them. We walk the ground and tell you which is which.
Does the chip have to be cleaned up afterward?
No. The chip is left on the ground on purpose. It covers the soil, slows regrowth for a while and breaks down over time.
