Somebody comes and looks
Groundwork on a slope cannot be priced honestly over the phone. What decides the number is not the length of the drive — it is the grade, where the water is coming from, whether there is rock close to the surface, and whether a loaded truck can physically get to where the material has to go. All of that has to be seen.
So the answer to most enquiries is a time to come out and walk it with you. The estimate is free and there is no obligation attached to it. Where a job is simple enough to price from photographs and a description, we will say so and save you the appointment.
Two things worth knowing
Weather and locates
Wet ground stops this work faster than anything else, and Western North Carolina is one of the wettest parts of the eastern United States. A week of rain moves everybody’s schedule, ours included. If timing is tight it is worth saying so at the start rather than at the end.
Anything that breaks ground gets located through North Carolina 811 before it starts. That is a legal requirement with a notice period attached, so it is worth factoring in on anything urgent — and it is not something to skip, because the cost of hitting a line is not a cost anybody wants to carry.

How much gravel does a driveway need?
It depends on length, width, how soft the ground underneath is and how steep the grade is. A drive built in proper lifts on a prepared base uses more stone up front and far less over the following five years. We measure the drive and give you a real number rather than a guess over the phone.
What areas do you cover?
Asheville and Buncombe County first, out through Henderson, Haywood and Transylvania counties, and down into Upstate South Carolina around Greenville and Spartanburg.
Can you build a driveway on a steep slope?
Yes, and most of what we build in Western North Carolina is on grade. The difference between a drive that holds and one that slides is whether it was cut into the hill or piled on top of it.
