Pickens County & Anderson County

Working in Easley

Easley is the largest community in Pickens County, about 12 miles west of Greenville. Most of the city is in Pickens County, and a small part reaches into Anderson County. The census counted 19,993 people in 2010 and 22,921 in 2020.

The town grew up around the railroad. The Atlanta and Charlotte Air Line came through and made Easley a textile town. Later, US 123 brought the stores and businesses that line it today. The town takes its name from William King Easley, born in Pickens County in 1825.

Growth like that keeps building lots coming, inside the city and out in the county. Most Easley calls are for clearing a lot, cutting a pad and putting in a drive. Some are for acreage that has grown in and needs opening up.

We are based in Asheville and work the Upstate regularly. McKinley walks the ground and prices it on site. Call (828) 540-6856 or use the form.

Clearing a lot in Easley

We mark the clearing limits and the trees you want to keep first. Then the trees come down, and the stumps and root mat come out under the house, the drive and any fill. Debris is hauled or processed on site, and the ground is graded to drain. See our land clearing page for the method.

Where you only want the land opened up, mulching is usually the better fit. It leaves the roots holding the soil and the chip covering it.

House pads and site prep

A pad is the level, compacted ground the foundation sits on. On a rolling Easley lot it is usually cut on the high side and filled on the low side. Fill goes down in layers, and each layer is compacted at a moisture the clay will take. The drive goes in early on a stone base, and the ground around the pad is shaped so water runs away from it. Our site preparation page covers the whole sequence.

What moves a pad price is the slope, how much fill is needed and where it comes from, and the soil. Read what moves the cost of a house pad before you call.

Pickens County, Anderson County or the city

Inside city limits, ask the City of Easley about clearing and building on your lot. In the county, Pickens County Stormwater Management enforces the county's stormwater ordinance. It publishes guidance on whether a construction site needs a stormwater permit, including a guide for projects that disturb less than an acre. If your land is on the Anderson County side, ask Anderson County.

SC DES stormwater coverage applies to jobs that disturb an acre or more, or sit inside a larger plan. Confirm with the right office for your parcel before work starts.

On the way

Easley sits between Greenville and the towns to the west. Jobs in Powdersville, Pickens, Liberty and Central go on the same trip, and so does Anderson to the south.
