Gravel Driveways in Hendersonville, NC

Gravel Driveways around Hendersonville

Search for a gravel driveway in Hendersonville and most of what comes up sells stone by the load. Stone matters. But a load tipped onto the ground is not a driveway. Someone still has to cut the route, shape the drainage, build a base and crown the finish.

That is the work we do. M&S Land Management builds gravel driveways from the first cut to the last pass of the roller, and we buy the right stone for each layer as part of the job. You get one price for the drive, not a stone bill and a guess.

Hendersonville is the Henderson County seat, at about 2,100 feet. Around it the ground ranges from creek bottoms to the steep slopes of Laurel Park, so two drives a few miles apart can need very different builds. Call McKinley at (828) 540-6856.

Local know-how

Gravel Driveways in Hendersonville: what to know

Why a load of gravel is not a driveway

Gravel laid straight onto soil gets pushed into it. Within a season you have two tracks and a hump of stone. A drive that lasts has larger stone in the base, compacted in layers, with finish stone on top and a crown that sends rain to the sides.

The order matters more than the stone. Cut, drainage, base, finish. Our guide to what goes down before a gravel driveway covers the layers in more detail.

Creek bottoms and ridge lots around Hendersonville

Mud Creek runs north through the east side of Hendersonville toward the French Broad River. Lots near creeks like it can stay soft and wet, and the base has to carry loads over that.

West of town, Laurel Park climbs toward Jump Off Rock, and drives there are a grade problem. They have to be cut into the hill and given a ditch so water does not run down the middle. We price each one on what the ground actually needs.

Permits: the road entrance and the erosion program

If your drive will connect to a state-maintained road, such as US 64 or US 176, the connection goes through the local NCDOT District Engineer's office. NCDOT also has a say in the pipe at the entrance.

Henderson County runs the erosion control program for Hendersonville, Laurel Park, Fletcher, Flat Rock and the unincorporated county. Check with both offices before work starts, because the answer depends on your road and your lot. Our driveway culvert guide explains the pipe side.

Do you sell gravel or build the driveway in Hendersonville?

We build the driveway. The stone is bought for each layer as part of the job, and the price covers the cutting, drainage, base, finish and compaction together.

Can I just have a load of gravel dumped on my Hendersonville driveway?

You can, and on a sound, well-shaped drive a top-up is sometimes enough. On soft ground or a drive with no crown, loose stone gets pushed in and washed off. That is when the drive needs building, not topping.

Which office handles erosion control for a lot in Hendersonville?

Henderson County runs the program for the City of Hendersonville, Laurel Park, Fletcher, Flat Rock and the unincorporated county. Mills River is handled separately. Confirm with the county for your lot.

Do you build steep driveways in Laurel Park?

Yes. Laurel Park lots are some of the steepest ground near Hendersonville. Those drives are cut into the hill, ditched on the uphill side and crowned so water leaves the surface.

How do I get a price for a new driveway near Hendersonville?

Send the address, a rough length and photos of the steepest and wettest parts. We walk it, measure it and give you one number. Call (828) 540-6856.
